Dear Sharon Community,
I'd like to share the story of Sharon Neighbors with you. We were established in 1998 as an outreach inititative of the Sharon Congregatioinal Church's Mission Committee. We were inspired by our visionary pastor at the time, the Reverend Douglas Moore. We were reflecting on how best to answer the call of our faith, to be servants in the service of others. We pondered the needs of our community. We thought about those who might be in need of a helping hand such as: senior citizens, people with disablilities, single parents, persons of low income, and people struggling with catastrophic illnesses. We then thought about the kinds of things people may need help with. We rustled up a handful of volunteers and thus Sharon Neighbors was born!
It was slow going at first. People it seems have a hard time asking for help. Over time we have tried to get the word out to the community about our availability, and have served many in a variety of ways. You may reach Sharon Neighbors by calling 763-2044. The coordinator will call you back and we'll do our very best to match your needs with the skills of our volunteers.
If we may be of service to you, please call. If you are interested in joing our cadre of volunteers go to our volunteer form.
We envision a community where:
Sincerely,
Lin Wermager
